With a mighty rushing wind and tongues of fire, the Christian Church came into being, as the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples!  Pentecost!  Fifty days after the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the gift of the Spirit came.  The Comforter, who would teach and guide the disciples as they spread the good news throughout the world.  Through their words and actions, the world will come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour.  The early Church suffered persecution and hardship but continued to grow. The Spirit gave new life to the fearful and despairing; gave courage and hope.   Those who recognized Jesus as the Son of God helped others to grow in faith.  This is all part of being Church.

As Christ=s church at St. Martin=s it is important for us to celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. To remember the contributions of countless disciples before us who helped to clear the way for us.  As we remember, we are also to take up the work of being Church.  To share our faith with those around us.  To proclaim Jesus in our life.  Worship is only part of being Church.  Worship is where we=re fed to do the real work of living a Christian life. We don=t cease to be AChurch@ once we leave the building.  We carry the gift of the Spirit, always.

With a mighty rushing wind and tongues of fire, the Christian Church came into being!    Infused with the energy of the Spirit, St. Martin=s continues to grow.  Empowered by the Holy Spirit, I pray that we will always work side by side to reveal God’s glory  through God’s Son, our Saviour,  Jesus Christ.

Special blessings in this Season of Pentecost.

 Rev. Millie

St. Martin's, Bay Ridges, a small friendly parish, exists "to worship God, to minister to the needs of the
community and help all people grow in faith and fellowship as a family of believers". All baptised Christians
are invited to receive both the bread and the wine at Holy Communion, or you may come forward for a
blessing, indicated by crossing your arms. If you are visiting with us, or here for the first time,
please sign our guest book. We hope that you will feel at home at St. Martin's as we worship. Go in peace
with God's Blessing and come again to God's house.
