The Outreach Committee's mission is to ensure that St. Martin's provides Outreach on a local, national and international level. Locally, there is a New To You Sale at the church on the last Friday of every month, from September to the end of May (except December). As well, a small group attends Eucharist at the Whitby Mental Health Centre as part of a rota of parishes in the deanery, to join with residents in worship and fellowship. Many members of the congregation also help at St. Paul's Community Food Bank. For some years now our congregation has supported needy families in the community. With the help of the Ajax-Pickering Immigrant Settlement Service, the Outreach Committee identifies recently arrived families in transition in need of temporary financial support. St. Martin's provides $50.00 per month to assist such families, usually for a period of one year. Nationally, St. Martin's has reached out in the past to provide sports equipment for a parish in Labrador and has begun to forge links with the Six Nations' community at Ohsweken. Internationally, Cuba, Kenya and South India have been areas of interest. From 1997 to 1999 we helped two children attend formal primary school and one teenager to obtain a certificate in mechanics and farming from a polytechnic. We also supported the Kids-to-Kids street children's feeding and teaching programme in the compound of Christ Church, Westlands, a parish of the Anglican Church of Kenya, Nairobi diocese. We encourage people to continue the support of that programme this year. We are also working with the People Bridge Foundation in a joint programme to fund the construction of a well and overhead tank for the Stella Maris Nursery School project in Vellore, South India. Outreach projects are funded mainly through parishioners' extra envelope donations and contributions to the Loon(ie) Bank.
